Installation, Commissioning and Remote Monitoring: What to Expect

Buying a stage-3 vapor recovery unit is straightforward; installing it correctly is what determines whether it performs. This article walks through the WHSH-M installation, commissioning and the monitoring features that come with it.

Installation requirements

Site requirements from the manual:
– Outdoor installation, level and well-ventilated ground, unit raised at least 200 mm above ground level, with drainage around the site
– Minimum distances: at least 3 m from the perimeter wall, at least 5 m from buildings
– Warning signs and protective barriers around the unit
– Concrete pad recommended: 2000 × 2000 × 200 mm
– Dedicated power supply with its own switch; grounding resistance below 4 Ω

Piping and wiring
– Inlet line: DN50, fitted with a shut-off valve and a flame arrestor
– Return line: DN20, fitted with a shut-off valve and a check valve
– Piping must pass an air-tightness test before commissioning
– Cables: power cable RVV 450/750 V 2.5×4+1×2.5 mm² plus an RS485 shielded twisted pair; both pre-buried
– The explosion-proof box sealing surfaces are sealed with replacement oil compound
– Phase sequence: yellow, green, red, neutral, ground; the phase-sequence protector must show green (normal) — red indicates phase error and the unit will not run

Commissioning

– After energizing, the unit enters run mode automatically after a 10-second delay
– The unit starts on tank pressure and stops on tank pressure — no manual operation
– Operation is supervised through the industrial PC with a 12.1-inch touchscreen (Windows-based): running data, alarm history, and manual/parameter modes are available; the manual and parameter screens are protected by an administrator login
– Installation is normally completed in one day; the piping uses clamp-type connections and the power/signal wiring is connected without opening the explosion-proof box

Remote monitoring and data

– The unit supports RS485 communication and WiFi/4G connectivity, uploading data to a cloud platform
– Environmental data (inlet pressure, outlet concentration, membrane pressure, temperature) is recorded every 30 seconds
– The system stores running history: daily processing time, total treated volume, recovered oil volume, start/stop times, start/stop pressures, treatment volume and concentration
– Alarm history records equipment faults, out-of-range parameters, unit status events and emergency-stop operations
– Operators can view status from a phone or web browser; the supplier can also see the data remotely for diagnosis and remote software updates
– Data can be delivered to station monitoring systems or environmental platforms on a custom basis

Training and documentation

Commissioning includes operator training: daily operation, parameter viewing and setting, maintenance routines, fault diagnosis and safety procedures. The operator manual and the fault analysis table (phase-sequence protection, vacuum-pump overcurrent, high system pressure, abnormal discharge) are provided with the unit.

The bottom line: with the pad ready, a WHSH-M installs in about a day, starts automatically, and gives the operator a live view of recovery and discharge data from a phone — plus a supplier who can see the same data and respond fast when something needs attention.
